Hi, I'm Nancy Nelson Garrett, and I would be honored to continue to serve as your District 12 School Board Member.
My passion is quality public education for all Williamson County students. I've spent my entire adult life in service to our local public schools, through good times and challenging times. I know what it takes to be an effective leader.
I was appointed to the School Board by the County Commission in 2016 and elected by the public in 2018. I served as vice chair of the board from 2018-2020. During the past two years, I was chosen by the Board as its leader and charged with navigating some of the most challenging times in WCS History.
I've had many people ask why I would want to continue to serve in the current environment, and my answer is always the same: our children, teachers, staff, and families are worth the intense time, effort, and strategic focus it takes to create a better future for our children. I have a first-hand view of these efforts as I volunteer in our schools twice weekly and witness all the good things going on in our schools; this knowledge fuels my fire to continue to work tirelessly for our school community.
I stand ready to continue to provide knowledgeable and honorable service to the families of District 12, and to Williamson County.
I have chosen to run as an Independent, non-partisan candidate. This means I will only be on the August ballot, not the Primary ballot in May. Here's why I made that choice:
- I firmly believe that we need independent, locally focused leadership to advocate for WCS' unique needs; our district's legacy of success is based on non-partisan service.
- We expect our teachers to be non-partisan in the classroom; I want to expect the same of myself as a board member.
- Finally, the school board code of conduct that is signed by each board member asks us to put Students First in our decision making. I want to continue to focus on students.
It would be my honor to earn your vote to continue to serve the families of District 12.
